Isla Mujeres

A sleepy fishing village with a modern vibe, Isla Mujeres is a wonderful vacation destination for the discerning traveler. Isla is a smaller, more tranquil neighbor to Cancun and is just a 20 minute ferry ride away. Often just referred to as Isla, our island is a haven of happy people living a simple life surrounded by family and friends, good food and good times. There is a distinct culture of integration and diversity among the islanders, as people from all over the world live on the island. Isla is known as a safe destination for solo female travelers and families with young children.

Isla Mujeres is about 7km long (4.3mi) and less than 1 km (.6mi) at its widest point. The island is beach on all coasts with the common favorite North Beach (Playa Norte), which is close to the downtown and one block from Las Palmas. The sand at North Beach is white and powdery, perfect for sand castles, evening strolls, and sunset drinks. There are coconut palms to provide shade, and you can wade out into the turquoise waters for quite a distance, body surf in the occasional wave and soak in the Caribbean sun. Have cold drinks delivered to you on the beach, share snacks, or bring your own. Most of the restaurants, entertainment and stores are in the downtown and are all within walking distance. Cruise down Hidalgo Ave, 'the strip', and check out menus, artisan crafts, and most likely you will catch a street performers who perform for tips.

When you want to venture a bit further, a golf cart or moped rental are great options to tour the island. It also makes for a great sight-seeing day, cruising along the different coasts. There are natural caves and beautiful bays for collecting shells and beach glass. There are many beautiful homes and countless little stores (tiendas) or restaurants for cold refreshments or lunch on the way.
